To begin answering this question, we must first identify the definition of the objective. Google provides users two main platforms for searching for services online. These would be Google Maps and Google Search. Although both are separate platforms, they have an incredible bond that when properly optimized, can bring you significant increases in online impressions, clicks, and of course, inbound phone calls. Below we will discuss their differences so that you can understand how to utilize both of them for your advantage.

There is much more debate, confusion, and misconceptions revolving rankings in the Maps platform, but that is because it is such a valuable ranking to achieve for any business in almost any country. The Maps platform also uses significantly more factors in its algorithm for deciding the final placement of rankings. This means that achieving a Maps Rank, is actually done differently than if you were to aim for just an Organic Rank.
This is both good news and bad news because although it is harder to understand the Maps algorithm, it is also much harder for your competitors and their marketers to stay on top of your city’s local standings.
What Do I Need to Rank My Law Firm in The Map Pack?
The two most crucial requirements here would be a website for your business, and a verified Google My Business listing. Outside of keeping your listing active, Google really only suggests that you provide a thorough and accurate description of your services to maximize your visibility.
To keep things simple, you could say that to become a top 3 listing on Google Maps will require that you become the most prominent and relevant law firm for your practice area. But to understand what it means to be prominent online; we must understand exactly what signals the algorithm has been instructed to look for. When we identify a signal that the algorithm requires to increase prominence (or relevance), we can form a creative method to replicate said signal. Once we can see a clear result of the algorithm’s response to a new method, we can begin to implement that method across the listings we need to rank.
If you can accomplish this to a better degree than your local competitors, you will theoretically achieve your desired top rank. Remember that you must follow Google’s strict rules and Terms of Service when using their platforms, or risk having your listing or business website suspended. Receiving a suspension for breaking their TOS means that your listing and website will no longer be served to users online until you get past their strict process for reinstatement.
